Top 10 Limiting Beliefs

When I did a research some time ago about what people are searching for the most when they come to this blog, I discovered one thing that I had never even thought about before:

Many of you would like to know the “Top 10 Limiting Beliefs”.

As I did not know the answer to that question, I did not post anything about this subject.

As I am always researching new programs concerning Limiting Beliefs it happened that I stumbled upon a new program called Clear Limiting Beliefs”. The title and the salespage of the program seemed to be promising and the price was only $27, so I purchased it without further thought.

It consists of two audios and an ebook. I must admit that I have not found the time to listen to the audios, but I had a quick glance into the book. And there it was, the answer to the question “What are the Top 10 Limiting Beliefs?”.

The author of the program, Amanda Goldston, identified the Top 10 Limiting Beliefs as the following:

  1. Fear of our GREATNESS
  2. Fear of Not being (good) ENOUGH
  3. Fear of NOT being LOVED
  4. Fear of Rejection
  5. Fear of FAILURE
  6. Fear of SUCCESS
  7. I don’t DESERVE/ I am not WORTHY of SUCCESS
  8. Rich People are… (all negative attributes assigned to rich people)
  9. I have layers of deep-rooted beliefs that hold me back
  10. I have to work long and hard for my money

In the book Amanda Goldston explains quite a lot about each of those Beliefs. I would love to give you more details about those Top 10 Limiting Beliefs but Clear Limiting Beliefs” is copyrighted material, and I do not want a lawyer knocking on my door tomorrow.

What I personally loved about the book were the different methods to erase Limiting Beliefs. This means that you will always find a suitable method for you. Not all people will be successful with every method, but with several methods at your hands, you will most probably find the One that works for you! And together with the two audios the book is most likely worth the price. If you are up against Limiting Beliefs even one piece of advice that works for you is priceless!

What You Have In Common With Elephants - by T.D.McKenzie

In many parts of India, elephants are used for manual labour; it is a tradition that has been a part of their culture for thousands of years.

Now although they are relatively peaceful animals, elephants are incredibly strong and can be difficult to control, as they can weigh eight thousand pounds or more once fully grown.

To deal with this, handlers developed a method that allows them to “condition� elephants while they are still young.

This conditioning involves tying a young elephant’s legs to a stake in the ground with a very thick rope, which prevents it from moving more than a few feet.

Whenever the baby elephant attempts to break free, it discovers that the rope is too strong. Although the elephant may attempt several times to escape, over time it eventually gives up and accepts its fate.

As the elephant grows to its full size, it continues to accept the idea that the rope prevents it from being free, even when the strong rope is replaced with a flimsier version.

With this belief firmly in place, the handlers can restrain a full-sized elephant easily with very small ropes and little supervision.

Now, it is easy to see that elephants and human beings are completely different; however, this story shows how conditioning can keep an animal clearly superior to humans in strength and size under control.

The reality of this example is that the elephant can walk away at any time, and that it would be pretty difficult for its handlers to stop it if it chose to do so. It is its belief system that tells it walking away is impossible, and so it stays captive for the rest of its life.

No, we are not elephants, but just like them, many of us create limiting beliefs about ourselves and the world at a young age. We base them on mostly inaccurate information, and it is these beliefs that are the cause of many of our present problems.

Limiting Beliefs - Personal Experience

Long before I watched the movie “The Secret” I realized that there were things in my life that I would like to achieve.

And as with many other people I could clearly see that I had not achieved them yet and far worse that I was not even on my way to achieving them.

Ok, let’s get real: I am not into fast cars, I have a decent body and am not over-weight, and from a financial point of view, I am not exactly starving. So many people would say: What is it you want? You have a good life! And yes, that is true!

And it is true that I do not have BIG goals that I have not achieved yet. I am a self-employed IT-specialist and do earn enough money a make a good living.

What I would like to achieve is that I could work from my own little office, spend more time with my family and my dogs and to be sure that I will be able to retire comfortably in 20 years.

Those “humble” goals all have to do with “more money”. If I could find a contract allowing me to work from my office (I normally work on customer sites) that paid a little bit more money her hour, I would be done!

This goal does not seem like much! It does not seem hard to achieve, does it?

But for several years I have not come closer to this goal, more to the contrary!

So when I got to know the Law of Attraction (Please remember that I live in Germany. The Law of Attraction is not the big buzz in this country. You would have a hard time finding anybody who has ever heard of it.) I was absolutely fascinated! I read some books about it and enrolled in Bob Doyle’s “Wealth Beyond Reason” program. I can only recommend that program because it gives you a very good insight in the subject, very good materials, good support AND… You even learn about Limiting Beliefs!

But before I talk about Limiting Beliefs let me finish my “goal” subject first: Ok, now I knew about the Law of Attraction, about Goal Setting, about visualization and so on. So let me tell you in short how I understand you have to apply it:

Set your goal, focus on it, visualize it as if it was already true, feel the emotions you will have when you will have achieved it. Do this all with confidence and without doubt, and the Universe will bring your goal to you! Ok, maybe this is a very short description, but I think this is briefly the way to apply the Law of Attraction.

Now here is what happened to me:

“Set your goal”, yes I can do that!

“Focus on it”, that’s easy, that’s what I do all day already!

“Visualize it as if it was already true”, here comes the first obstacle! I just cannot visualize! I CAN’T! Of course I can: Imagine visualizing your dream house on the beach and all you can see is a black-and-white dungeon in the grey mist! Can you get excited about that? I can’t!

“Feel the emotions you will have when you have achieved it”, ok, I can feel the emotions, the excitement I have when I take a long walk with my dogs at dawn instead of driving to work.

“Do this all with confidence and without doubt”, oh, here comes the impossible thing! How can I have “no doubt” when all I have experienced tells me to have doubts? How can I silence the voices in my head that say “Who are you kidding?”?

Here they come, the Limiting Beliefs!

Have you read Joe “Mr Fire” Vitale’s “Attractor Factor”? What is the third step in his formula? GET CLEAR ON YOUR GOAL! That is to say: Get rid of your Limiting Beliefs about your goal! But how do I do that? Joe Vitale made an appointment with his mysterious healer, and bam, he was clear about his goals! Congratulations!! I do not have such a healer! The only “healer” I know would prescibe some valium to get me over my “upset” mental state.

Remember, I mentioned the “Wealth Beyond Reason” program? Bob Doyle is well aware of the importance of Limiting Beliefs (As of course is Joe Vitale. My former paragraph is not to imply that Joe Vitale is ignorant in any form, nothing would be further from the truth. In fact after writing “Attractor Factor” he teamed up with Brad Yates to do a program about erasing Limiting Beliefs himself.). He strongly recommends dealing with your Limiting Beliefs! His favourite method to do so is EFT. In his program he features the two EFT-specialists and prosperity coaches Carol Look and Brad Yates.

So I have to say that Bob Doyle really got me interested in Limiting Beliefs and how to erase them. EFT works for me, but in my opinion it is not fast enough.

I can say that for some time I got quite obsessed with finding faster, “better” methods. And that is what this blog is about: The methods I have found and the experiences I had with them. You can read all about the methods here. I certainly have my 2 favourite methods which are EmoTrance and the McKenzie Mastery Process. EmoTrance, because of the certainty I have about the method and the ease with which it is done, and the McKenzie Mastery Process, because it’s even increased ease of application.

But read for yourself and choose the method that is best suited for you!

To finish this, I would like to give my opinion on the Law of Attraction “work”: I think that the Law of Attraction will bring you your goals automatically as soon as you are in harmony with your goals, which is to say as soon as you have erased your Limiting Beliefs connected to the goals. The steps mentioned above (visualization e.g.) will only “boost” the speed of delivery, but without having dealt with the Limiting Beliefs nothing will happen.

There has to be a better way!

In any area of life there has always been a development, an evolution.

Nowadays we do not walk to a faraway destination or take a horse carriage. We take a car, train or plane and thus save quite a lot of time and moreover get to the destination more safely!

Nowadays we do no longer count our fingers or write on a piece of paper to do calculations but we use an electronic calculator. Thus we get our results faster and they are more precise.

When it comes to psychological issues (such as Limiting Beliefs) we still normally use “stone-age” methods: Have you ever tried classic psychotherapy? You want to resolve an issue and 10 years and $20.000 later - bang - you get a result!! Hurray!! But do you also belong to those people who want their results faster and cheaper?

Ok, that is why I say: There has to be a better way!

And that is why I share with you any method that I did come across that can give you results faster!

Why do Limiting Beliefs work?

Most of us do not even know that we have Limiting Beliefs.

And if we know that we have them, then most of the time we do not know what exactly they are.

But why do they work ANYWAY?

Well, they work as any belief does: They are stored in your Unconscious Mind. And your Unconscious Mind has the power to attract things, events or circumstances to you.

I know this may sound strange. But have you ever heard of the Law of Attraction?

It is quite popular these days. There is even a movie called “The Secret” that is all about the Law of Attraction.

The Law of Attraction states that whatever you focus on with emotion you attract to you.

This may be something you wholeheartedly wish to happen.

But it might as well be something you fear will happen.

Both are things you focus on with emotion!

Your Limiting Beliefs are stored in your Unconscious Mind together with an emotion. That is the emotion you feel when you think of the Limiting Belief or the opposite of your Limiting Belief.

If you can get rid of the “stored emotion” connected to the belief the Limiting Belief will lose it’s power. That is what processes such as EFT, BSFF, EmoTrance and the McKenzie Mastery Process do. And that is why I highly recommend chosing the most suitable of these methods for you and using them intensively.

How to find and identify your Limiting Beliefs

If you have decided to get rid of your Limiting Beliefs: Congratulations!

But how do you find them?

Ok, you might know about one or two of them, but what about the others?

There are two ways I know of how you can identify a Limiting Belief:

1) Make a statement about something you want to have or be, e.g. “I am rich”. Then listen closely to the “self-talk” in your mind. What “does your mind say” exactly after that statement?

Does it say: “You will never have enough money!” or “Making money is not easy!”?

Ok, you have just found some of your Limiting Beliefs!!

2) Make a statement about something you want to have or be. Then notice any uncomfortable feeling in your body come up. For many people this will be somewhere in your chest or stomache, but it might be anywhere in your body.

This uncomfortable feeling coming up means that there is a discrepancy between your statement and what you actually believe about yourself. Now you might notice Limiting Beliefs come up in your mind as in 1), but this is not really necessary.

You now know that there is a Limiting Belief regarding your statement (your wish). Using processes like the McKenzie Mastery Process or EmoTrance you can now erase those Limiting Beliefs without even knowing exactly what they are.

What are Limiting Beliefs?

Each of us believes in many things. Maybe you believe in God, maybe you believe that the universe is eternal, maybe you believe that the sun will shine tomorrow morning.

You most certainly have beliefs about yourself: You might believe that you are a talented artist or a good golfer or a lovable person. But you most certainly also have negative beliefs about yourself: You might believe that you are too fat or that you do not have enough education to earn much money or that you are not beautiful enough to find a lover. These are your Limiting Beliefs!

And we all have them! Without exception! You just have to “listen” to your self talk going on in your head! Is it always positive? I bet it is not. There will often be statements like “This won’t work”, “I am too stupid” or “If only I were smarter”.

How do Limiting Beliefs lead to Self Sabotage?

Think about it! If you really believe that you are not beautiful enough to find a lover, you will most likely stop looking for one. If you really believe that you are not educated enough to find a good job, you will most likely stop applying for the job you would like. This is the first step of Self Sabotage.

It might even go further: Let’s assume you believe that you are not educated enough to get the job of your dreams. And for some reason (maybe your father, some friend or “fate” opened the opportunity for you) you DO get this job. If your Limiting Belief (not being educated enough) is strong enough, you will subconsciously be forced into actions that lead to your losing this job after some time. Maybe you will make stupid mistakes (mistakes that are untypical of you), maybe you will unconsciously provoke situations that lead to your being late at work nearly every morning, who knows!

Limiting Beliefs lead to Self Sabotage! That is a fact! This is not a character defect, it is just the way it is! And you can only do one thing about it:

ERASE YOUR LIMITING BELIEFS!

Stop Self Sabotage, Erase Limiting Beliefs

Have you ever taken part in any Personal Development program?

Have you ever experienced that you were all excited about what you learned in those programs?

Only to discover a few weeks later that you had not implemented anything you learned in your daily life?

Only to discover that your life had not changed for the better?

You probably have! This is Self Sabotage at work! This is your Limiting Beliefs that prevent you from getting any better!

So what can you do?

In order to get any improvement in your life you will have to deal with your Limiting Beliefs. Otherwise they will get you stuck.

On this website I will introduce several methods that I have used personally to deal with Limiting Beliefs and Self Sabotage. All these methods work!

But they do not work equally well for everybody. For example: I personally am not very good at visualizations. So methods that use a lot of visualizations are not easy for me to use.

On the other hand, if you can visualize well, such methods can works wonders for you!
