A Saturday Evening Out With College Buddies At A Local Nightclub Results In Hazardous And Irresponsible Drinking And An Alcohol Overdose

When Lois was in high school, she had obtained a reputation as an individual who studied a lot and who rarely, if ever, partied with her classmates. She seemed highly motivated to "shine" academically so that she would be able to go after a career that she not only liked but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial perspective.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a distinguished program in linguistics. Her reasoning for this decision was that this subject area would be a good foundation for law school and would not be indistinguishable from the majority of law school applicants who decide to take political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the type of individual who worked attentively to accomplish her goal and then would take a break when she could. As it turns out, nonetheless, most of the things she did between school sessions or during her summer vacations did not have much to do with drinking. Evidently, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were completed and being jubilant with the fact that she had done extremely well on her tests, however, she wanted to let her hair down and do something besides school work for a change.

So Lois and some of her friends from the university went to a local tavern where they had a few shots. As the evening moved forward, Lois and her buddies continued to drink. In fact, she was having such a fantastic time that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking around thirty-five minutes when Lois started to speak in a confused manner, slur her words, and then pass out, in spite of this, her classmates without delay knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency number, and ask for medical assistance because they believed that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was attentive to the fact that she came close to dying from an alcohol overdose and, consequently, was pleased to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat dejected knowing that she had almost died the night before. Her parents were aware how rigorously she worked in graduate school and how little she permitted herself to have any fun. Nonetheless, they also knew that Lois needed to stay away from excessive and hazardous drinking.

Consequently, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking occasion develops, that she always drink in moderation. Lois was in agreement with this and promised her friends and her parents that she would never ever drink in an irresponsible manner. In Lois's own words, "I never had an inkling that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local college newspaper. I now understand that careless drinking is not the best for me. I promise that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also had. Stated more explicitly, she instantaneously comprehended that she had made an error and made up her mind that she would never make the same mistake again. In actual fact, she now grasped the fact that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of careless and irresponsible drinking can result in a fatality.
